In Successive Seasons, Strikers From Kotoko And Bechem United Have Raced For The Top Scorer’s Chart.

The Ghana Premier League Top Scorer by Season has been won by 37 players from 1973 to 2022, with Accra Hearts of Oak producing the highest number of winners.

Peter Lamptey, a member of Accra Hearts of Oak’s fearsome five, was named the first Ghana Premier League’s top scorer of the season with 26 goals, the most ever scored by a striker.

The ever-researched team of editors at www.atspo.com has highlighted teams that have produced strikers to compete for the top scorers’ chart in the 2021-2022 season as well as the ongoing 2022-2023 season.

The only teams in Ghana to have supplied forwards that chased for last season’s top scorer award this season are Kumasi Asante Kotoko, the defending league champions, and 2021-2022 MTN FA Cup finalist, Bechem United.

Bechem United provided the Ghana Premier League with Augustine Okrah as the season’s top goal scorer in the 2013-2014 season, when he scored 16 goals.

Augustine Okrah, after being the first and only player of Bechem United to have won the title of top scorer by season, challenged for the ultimate last season with 14 goals, for which he was the third joint top goal scorer with Bright Adjei after Yaw Annor of Ashanti Gold and Franck Mbella Etouga had recorded 22 and 21 goals, respectively.

The Hunters from the Bono and Ahafo Regions, after parting ways with Augustine Okrah, depended on former Bolga All-Stars striker Hafiz Konkoni to bang in the goals in the current season. With 13 goals so far this season, Konkoni has taken the lead after converting a penalty against Accra Hearts of Oak.

In the final game of the previous season, Ashanti Gold had a player steal the top scorer award from Asante Kotoko’s foreign striker. Franck Mbella Etouga, in his first season with the Porcupine Warriors, recorded 21 goals to finish second to the eventual winner, Yaw Annor, who had 22 goals.

Kumasi Asante laid off their red-hot striker Franck Mbella Etouga to an Egyptian club at the end of the season and had to fly on the wings of Ugandan forward Steve Desse Mukwala in the 2022-2023 season, in which he scored 11 goals in 25 league game appearances, and he is in contention to win the 2022-2023 top scorer award.
