I Disagree On Many Things With John Mahama But He Is The Most Tolerant Politician I Know – Mannaseh

Ten years ago (and two years after leaving journalism school) I met Ghana’s sitting “sit-in” president at the National Youth Achievers Awards. I was awarded for Media Excellence, and the package included this incredible book by President John Dramani Mahama. I took it to him for an autograph and these were his kind words.

Popular Investigative Journalist Mannaseh Azure Awuni has asserted that even though he disagree with former President John Dramani Mahama on some issues, he is the most tolerant Politician he knows.

In a post shared on his official Facebook page on Thursday, 27th October 2022, penned as follows;

“Two months later, I celebrated his electoral victory, and four years later, celebrated his defeat. We disagree on many things, but if I were to name the most tolerant politician I know, I wouldn’t think twice about my choice.

At the recent dialogue on the safety of journalists organised by the German Embassy and DW Academy, I listed instances in the Mahama era, where his body language averted what could have been extremely dangerous moments for me.

I also contrasted them with the body language of President Akufo-Addo, who said at the 2019 Bar Conference in Takoradi that the murder of Ahmed Suale could not be said to be an attack on press freedom.”

As a journalist, I don’t ask to be liked or celebrated. That’s what celebrities crave. All that journalists ask for is tolerance of our divergent views. Manasseh Azure added.

He added that If journalist views are injurious to your reputation, the law is clear on what to do. Physical attacks are not part of the options. If physical attacks were a prescription for irresponsible , then some of the politicians advocating that wouldn’t be alive to push that charge.
