A Ghanaian woman who was returning to Germany after spending holidays in Ghana has become a trendy topic among Ghanaian International travelers and the Ghanaian community in Germany.
The German Airport Customs and Border Protection officers explained that the X-ray machine gave an unusual flash when it got to one of the bags. They quickly looked at it closely and searched for the owner of the luggage. The X-ray results show it was a big organic creature in the bag.
After finding the owner of the bag who happened to be a female Ghanaian, they opened up the bag and found two big antelopes smoked/roasted in full and bagged in a sack. The officers questioned why she didn’t declare the of the sack. Upon interrogation, the woman explained that the meat was a delicacy so she was bringing it to eat as a snack.
The officers cited health reasons and confiscated the meat and destroyed it. They further added that they often see strange meats like “stinky” fermented fish (momone) and others in the luggage of Ghanaian travelers, especially the female. This makes them wonder and get curious about Ghanaian bags. They however sometimes turn a blind eye if the quantity isn’t much and allow it through.
Travelers are advised to make inquiries about such things when traveling to other countries.
