Christopher Nkunku, a star at RB Leipzig, has reportedly decided to join Chelsea despite interest from Manchester United.
Paris Saint-Germain, who sold him in 2019, is also rumored to be interested in the dynamic playmaker.
The French forward reportedly signed a pre-contractual agreement with Chelsea after undergoing a secret medical examination with the Blues last month, as reported by Infoexpert24.
While Nkunku is not scheduled to come until next summer, the Blues reportedly have a contract in place for him to join Stamford Bridge, with owner Todd Boehly willing to pay his full £53 million release clause to gain an advantage over their rivals.
The 24-year-old scored 35 goals and assisted on 20 more in 52 appearances across all competitions for RB Leipzig during a remarkable season that led to him being voted Bundesliga player of the year.
His performance was rewarded with a new two-year contract extension that will keep him at Leipzig until 2026. However, it contains a £52.8 million release clause, which Chelsea has now exercised.
Should Chelsea accept the agreement for Nkunku, it would continue the club’s extravagant spending under Boehly, who this year completed a £4.2 billion takeover of the Blues.
