Dermatologist (Dr Stuti Khare Shukla) has spoken about the effects of the wrong ingredients or products on our face. She also shared a list of five things you may be applying to your face but should stop! These mistakes can cause skin allergies, burns, boils, and hyperpigmentation, as well as premature aging.
1. Bar soap
A bar soap has an alkaline pH and your skin has an acidic pH. It disrupts your skin’s moisture barrier and causes a lot of skin issues like dryness and flakiness. Also, this bar soap can make your skin become sensitive permanently.
2. Petrochemical jelly
People who have oily skin may experience more breakouts and acne. It is not recommend to use petroleum jelly on your skin unless you are experiencing intense flaking of skin or skin problems like eczema. Instead, opt for a humectant or a lightweight moisturizer that seeps in through your skin.
3. ToothpasteÂ
Toothpaste has emerged as a viral acne remedy and taken the world by storm. However, applying toothpaste to your face may be the worst skincare mistake you’re making. Spot treating your acne or pimples with toothpaste can sometimes burn your skin.
4. Rubbing alcohol
Alcohol is something that’s not meant for your skin and can cause dryness and damage to the skin. Also, it may further disrupt your skin’s barrier, which can lead to other types of skin problems.
5. Lotion for the body
No matter how similar your body lotion looks to your facial moisturiser, it is not made for your face! Usually, body lotions contain heavier ingredients like butter and oils in their formulations, which do not sit well on your facial skin. These heavier ingredients can worsen skin concerns like acne.
