Every 21st September, Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day is celebrated in Ghana. Today, marks exactly 113 years since his birth. Kwame Nkrumah led Ghana to independence in 1957. After 65 years of Independence, the multi-million dollar questions are things really going right in Ghana now? Will Nkrumah be happy of the Ghana he dreamt of. Is this country Ghana really in the right frame of mind?
Every leader Ghana has had, even the military coupists, in our post-independence history had a genuine desire to do good to for Ghanaians. The problem, however, has always been the legion of selfish, greedy, opportunistic and corrupt inner-circle of influence peddlers.
Suffice to say, the previous and current administrations of the nation have tried their best for the populace to enjoy to some extent, there are still myriads of problems.
In the area of Infrastructure, Education, Agriculture, Health, Energy, Transport, I will commend them, but on employment, corruption, environmental degradation, and other sectors of the economy, there are huge gaps that needs to be filled. The cedi keeps depreciating to the dollar.Â
Our societal norms which we cherished so much is eluding us! People sit on radio, social media and on television to threaten and insult the elderly in the name of politics.
Some young men and women of today, don’t have scruples and open their mouths anyhow to disrespect and say things that pierces the heart and doesn’t unite the nation. Â
When it comes to corruption, our society has been overwhelmed but everyone points to the other except themselves.
Galamsey is carried out by the very people we live with in the same communities, yet, we pretend these are ghosts. Hypocrisy, dishonesty, insincerity, partisan political and a dose of insanity is what’s destroying Ghana.
Everyone sells things at the price he/she likes because there is no price control. They allude it to increasing transport fares.
What happened to the Ghana many saw as the future of Africa? Where did we go wrong as a nation that we have to always borrow before fending for ourselves? Is the Blackman capable of managing his own affairs? Of yes, then it’s time for attitudinal change.
It seems like the star in the flag is fading. Leaders, Its time to put the interest of the nation first. It’s time for all of us to enroll into the school of patriotism. A journey of thousand miles begins with a step. Ghana was here before us and we shall leave it. What legacy are we leaving for the generations yet unborn?
