Nyinahin District Court in the Atwima Mponua district of the Ashanti region detained six illegal miners arrested by the Ghana National Association of Small Scale Mining in Atuntuma.
The suspects are expected to return to court on Friday to reveal their fate. In addition to the government’s crackdown on galamsey operators, a national task force of the Ghana National Association of Small Scale Miners (GNASM) arrested six people for illegal mining at Atuntum in the Atwima-Mponua district of the Ashanti region.
The suspects are five from the Volta region and one from the Ashanti region. They were caught mining in the Ofin River in the Atantuma community and other communities in the Atwima Mponua area in the Ashanti region.
The task force moved and destroyed more than 100 Changfang machines, water pumps and other mining equipment.
