The Assemblyman for Sefwi Surano Electoral Area in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality, Hon. Mathew Obiri Adjarko has passionately appealed to the government to come to his aid to enable him remove an alleged over heaped refuse dump in his electoral area.
He said until government steps in or intervene in his plight, the likelihood of cholera outbreak could not be ruled out from the area.
Speaking to the correspondent in an interview Hon Mattew Obiri said he has engaged the officials of the Zoomlion Ghana Limited in several meetings to relocate the swollen refused dump in the community but to no avail.
Adding that as an Assemblyman he also used his influence to prevail on the Assembly for action but said just as he was about to receieve response the District Chief Executive of the area Hon Felix Amoah and his driver involved in an accident on the Accra Nsawam highway and died.
According to the Assemblyman for the past two years the District Assembly had sat for only two occasions.
Stressing that besides his own efforts at managing the refuse dump, he had made several contacts with the appropriate quarters for help but also to no avail.
The Assembly member bemoaned that they can no more cope with the weird smelling of the refuse dump.
The refuse dump he said serves over 6000 residents in the community and imagine if it is not relocated but instead the residents continue to heap it with more waste what one would expect, Hon Mattew asked.
We have nowhere to dump our refuse, but the Zoomlion Ghana Limited has been worsening our plight as they have kept their refuse buckets here for some years.
Our health are at stake hence we are calling on the government and other stakeholders to come to our aid or better still prevailing on the Zoomlion to find us a place to dump our refuse Hon Mattew stated.
