How Some SHS Heads and Staff are Depreciating the Cedi

Some Senior High School Students

Ghana is growing steadily and Technology is evolving, all senior high schools have been directed not to allow students use phones in schools during Active schooling days.

The Minister of Communication, Madam Ursula Owusu Ekuful had Advocated for the use to phones in schools by students calling for the end to the seizure of phones in senior high schools.

In Average, 5,000 phones are dismantled in several schools within the five regions in the north which means if a phone is Ghc500 averagely, Ghc2,500,000 worth of phones are destroyed, yet Ghanaians cannot produce at the spate in which we Destroy.

Way back in Lassia Tuolu Senior High School in Upper West Region, some students have Revealed how their phones were seized and destroyed by School authorities because rules were flaughted, if Indeed students are being taught how to apply information and Communication Technology by Introduction of the subject as core to be taught, why then should Authorities Advocate for destruction of Information and Communication Technology tools, an act that appears Anachronistic and generates Financial loss to the state because the phones are imported with a foreign currency, not produced in Ghana.

The Ghana Cedi currently trades at, Ghc9.97 to a dollar as at 11th September 2022, a development that has triggered the increase in price of fuel and other imported products and services.

Heads of Second Cycle Institutions should make provisions to keep phones of students till they are either going on vacation or till they write their final exams, it’s not a crime to have a phone or use it, we have Several issues government and Educational leaders and Associations should be addressing Including fighting for rent allowance for their teachers and also ensuring that science teachers are paid better salaries.

Destroying phones is not a deterrent that will urge students to study, it rather limits them.
