Okudzeto Ablakwa, the MP for North Tongu and Ranking Member of the Finance Committee has once again come out with another revelation regarding the travels of the president. Okudzeto Ablakwa has been one of the vociferous critics of President Akufo-Addo. He has criticized the use of extravagant jets while the Presidential jet sits unused. According to the MP in a time that the president is calling on Ghanaians to tighten their belt, he should also set an example.
Well, in a latest revelation, Okudzeto Ablakwa has revealed that the Presidential jet was flown out of the country on August 30, 2022 in a time of over 6 hours to France. The jet is currently still in Paris since it landed there. Ablakwa adds that the President wasn’t the one who was flown to Paris because the President was on board the KLM flight that left the country on September 3, 2022.
Hon. Ablakwa wants the president to explain why his Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin had said the presidential jet was not worthy enough to fly 6 hours and yet the plane flew from Ghana to France on August 30. Again the MP demands that Akufo-Addo should reveal the occupants of the plane so that Ghanaians know who has been using the plane that fateful day.
Lastly, Ablakwa demand that since the plane sits in Paris, Akufo-Addo should be kind enough to return to Ghana on September 10 in the presidential jet. Many have raised issues about the extravagance of the president when it comes to airlines. Even at a time when Ghanaians were being told to burden share, the president was still flying in luxurious jets to conferences.
The Presidency insists that the jet is old and has lost form and yet the same plane is being used by other dignitaries, sometimes other presidents in flying around the world. Which dignitary was flown on the plane to France on August 30? Will the president heed to Ablakwa’s call and use the plane on his return journey?
