Kamaldeen Abdullai, a member of the NPP Communications team has served a strong notice to government about NABCO.
Speaking on TV3 New Day show this morning, Kamaldeen Abdullai made it clear that the government should do the needful and pay the NABCO beneficiaries. According to him, the NABCO trainees have every right to demonstrate or go to court if their monies are not paid. He added that even if government owes them just one month, they(government) should do the needful and pay it to them.
“I am putting myself in their shoes and I empathize with them, they have the right to demand that the government pays them and government must do the needful. Where I have a problem is that, even if the NABCO trainees are owed one month, they have the right to demand what is due them.”
“They should also understand that it was for good intention that the government of the NPP brought the NABCO initiative” he said.

The Nation Builders Corps, which is popularly known as NABCO was introduced by the NPP governmentin 2017. It was introduced to reduce the unemployment rate in the country. The scheme employed 100,000 youths who have completed various universities, polytechnics and other tertiary institutions. The scheme has officially ended. It came to an end on 1st September, 2022.
Government has made another scheme known as the ‘YouStart’ program. This program is said to give loan capital to the youths in order to set up their own businesses. Some NABCo Trainees are happy with this new initiative while others are not comfortable with it. This is because the government has failed to pay them their arrears of 10 months so they can’t trust the government again on this new program. They believe that the NABCO scheme collapsed even before it officially ended on 1st September.
