22/23 Premier League Team Of The Week -5: Soucek In Midfield; Haaland, Alvarez & Mitrovic As Forward

The fifth week of the 2022-23 Premier League season – and the quest for the Team of the Week based on players’ performances, here is Week 5 team based on the highest scored statistics.

Goalkeeper

Neto (Bournemouth)

Handed his first debut, the former Barcelona shot-stopper showed a good sign enough to earn him the goal post this week. Sighted 3 saves, 2 clearances and a clean sheet, his side’s first positive result this season.

Defenders

Lloyd Kelly (Bournemouth)

Aside from Neto, the Captain of the side also was very impressive, rated as one the best defender based on his performance – 4 clearances which include a brilliant clearance off the line, and 2 blocked shots.

Jonny Evans (Leicester)

Though conceded against Manchester United, the English skipper’s performance can not be overlooked – 8 impressive interceptions, 2 tackles, 4 aerial duels and the most touches made by any central defender (107) – such a quite performance.

John Stones (Man. City)

After a poor defensive display against Crystal Palace last week, an improvement was seen from the English defender as he kept a clean sheet and assisted against Nottingham Forest.

Midfielders

Gabriel Martinelli (Arsenal)

A real character, quick thinker and ability to execute got Arsenal the edge over Aston Villa as they remain the only side with a 100% winning record.

Tomas Soucek (West Ham)

Exceptional done in midfield, the Czech International’s excellent equaliser earned the “Hammers” a point against Tottenham alongside his immense contribution to the overall team performance which earned him the man of the match honour.

ilkay Gundogan (Man. City)

Although, was silent on the score sheet, however, his leadership was felt in the team – came up with the best midfield stats of 4 key passes, 96.4% accurate passes and 127 touches.

Mohamed Salah (Liverpool)

From the best goal scorer to being a creator was such an amazing performance from the Egyptian as his two assists was enough to earn them a crucial 2-1 victory against Newcastle United.

Forwards

Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez (Man. City)

Shared joint goals of 5, the duo were named the best attackers this week – had the highest ratings than any other player of 9.3 and 9.0 respectively.

Another hat-trick for Haaland, he leads the goal chart with 9, likewise with Alvarez his first two goals of the season for the “Cityzens”.

Aleksandar Mitrovic (Fulham)

Shining knight of Fulham, the Serbian once again was on the score sheet as it contributed immensely to Brighton’s defeat at home -earning the 27-year-old his second appearance in the team of the week paired with Haaland as the main strikers and Alvarez as supporting striker.

Substitutes: Thiago Silva, Max Kilman, Ruben Neves, Cheick Doucoure, Kiernan Dews bury-Hall, Raheem Sterling, Roberto Firmino.
