On Tuesday, 30th August 2022, TV3 broadcast journalist Johnny Hughes made some wild revelations about ongoing “galamsey” activities in Ghana.
Johnny Hughes explained that due to illegal mining activities, the government spends huge amounts of dollars to organise task forces and other resources to fight the menace.
The TV3 journalist, during his editorial, revealed that party folks hide behind community mining to perpetuate “galamsey” activities.
” How come the same people who are pushing us to fight the galamsey activities are also involving themselves in the illegal mining activities? Why should some excavators be burnt whilst others are spared”.
According to Johnny Hughes, the fight against illegal mining has not been implemented fairly and the consequences are very serious.
” We will start importing water if we do not stop the galamsey activities. We are polluting our waters whilst spending money to pay the military to stop the activity”.
According to the TV3 journalist, illegal mining activities make use of cyanide and mercury. “Meanwhile, the chemicals are detrimental to human life”
What must be done to stop illegal mining activities in Ghana? What are your thoughts on the ongoing discussion?
