Gone are the days when politicians can say anything just to win the votes of electorates and pretend not to have said it if they win power. The internet they say never forgets. With the emergence of social media, citizens can always dig out promises politicians made in the quest to win elections. The governing New Patriotic Party, whom to the majority of Ghanaians has not performed up to expectations, have often been referred to for statements they made against the erstwhile John Dramani Mahama government when they were in opposition.Â
Most of these statements show the New Patriotic Party government has either done the same or worse than what the NDC did. One of such campaign statements is that of Samira Bawumia, the wife of the Vice-president and second lady of the country. A video that was shared by political activist, Kwame A-plus on his official Facebook page, has generated massive reactions from Ghanaians.Â
In the video, the second lady, during an NPP rally accused the then John Dramani Mahama government of engaging in corruption with the infamous “bus branding saga”. She maintained that, despite the cries from the general public for the Mahama-led government to halt the project, it was adamant and went ahead and executed it.
Samira Bawumia also went ahead and tagged the National Democratic Congress and John Dramani Mahama as corrupt and incompetent. But Ghanaians who thought the ruling New Patriotic Party has done worse than the Mahama administration that she accused, took to the comments section to blast her for what she said.
Here are some reactions from Ghanaians.
