The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketsia, has made some bold declarations ahead of the 2024 elections and in the course of that declaration, he clarified some perceptions in the mind of Ghanaians. It has always been the case that, parties in the opposition make the government fail so that they, the opposite party, will become an undeniable alternative.
So far, the current eight Parliament has made the minority more powerful than the majority and as such, the current minority has the power to halt and put to a stalemate, government processes. The majority caucus and members of the New Patriotic Party have always insisted that the National Democratic Congress are using their Members of Parliament to make the government fail.
Asiedu Nketsia has proved that this is not the case. According to him, it has never been the intention of the National Democratic Congress to make the government fail. He believed that if the government succeed, it will be in the interest of all Ghanaians. He cited the wealth countries as an example. He said that although some countries are developing with some able Presidents, there is still change of governments and the successive government performs more.
However, the current state of the economy is not the doing of the current opposition party. It is true that there were some interference in the passage of the 2022 budget by the minority and the government continuously blame their woes on the minority. Yet, the majority of this problem is as a result of the incompetence of the current administration. The Ministers and Vice President have failed in making the economy stable and things have gone out of hand. Their only shield is the excuse of COVID-19, Russia Ukraine War, Banking Sector cleanup and the energy sector.
