There was this school of thought that the General Secretary elect will be biased toward Alan Kyeremanten the same way John Boadu would have been biased toward Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Factually also, the majority of the votes of Justin Frimpong Kodua were from the delegates in the Ashanti region and also there were some expectations that JFK will be lenient towards some aspirants from that region.
However, otherwise has been seen in these past few days. The National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party, Nana B, dropped an unexpected revelation about what happened on Saturday. Nana B revealed that he and Justin Frimpong Kodua went to the Northern Region and on their way, he passed by the Ashanti region just because of the walk.
“What worries me the most is that we went to the Northern Region and whiles returning to Greater Accra, the General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, stopped by in the Ashanti region just because of the walk. The General Secretary engaged some of the organizers of that walk. He begged them to stop the walk. He also engaged them in a nice way. But they did not mind him”
Now, the executives of the New Patriotic Party are in a dilemma as to whether they should take an immediate decision of punishing those who faulted or allow this pass. If they allow this pass as it has been done in previous years, then it is obvious that the change that the NPP needs internally cannot be implemented by these set of executives.
There needs to be some sort of deterrence towards others who intend to repeat it. My prediction is that members of the Bawumia camp will be inclined to also organize a walk provided the defaulters in the Alan camp are not punished. This is because, in the first place, it is not fair for his popularity of Alan to be increased by the walk whiles Dr. Bawumia’s own reaches a stalemate.
