Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, Inspector-General of the Ghana Police Service, has revealed that the police administration is putting measures in place to reduce robbery response time in the country to 10 minutes.
He stated that the initiative will be bolstered in the coming days by the deployment of over 2000 personnel and motorcycles across the country’s highways.
According to the IGP, the police force is dedicated to protecting people and property in the country.
He made this disclosure on Friday, August 12, 2022, during a public lecture on policing at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
Dr. George Akuffo Dampare gave a lecture titled “The Changing Phase of Policing in Ghana: Expectations and the Role of the University Community.”
“We want to reduce robbery and crime response times across the country to 10 minutes; we believe this is possible and will be accomplished.” When was the last time you heard of robberies on the country’s major highways? All of those locations are patrolled by police officers.
“We are going to deploy about 2000 motorcycles and officers to patrol all of the country’s highways,” says the IGP.
Dr Akuffo Dampare stated that the names of all officers will be permanently embroidered on their uniforms for easy identification by the public in order to improve and strengthen discipline in the service.
He also stated that the police force has increased its intelligence operations by allocating adequate financial and human resources to the task.
“We have intelligence officers all over the place, in Ubers, shops, and communities.” “It’s very expensive, but we have to get the job done,” he said emphatically.
