Popular and investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni has revealed that, the government is now charging the E-levy tax on the first 100 cedis transactions contrary to what was said about the E-Levy.
In a post shared on his official Facebook page on Saturday, 23rd July 2022, he wrote;
“They are now charging E-levy on some first 100 cedis transactions of the day. Shameless thieves!”.
“The E-Levy is 1.5% of all cumulative daily transfers of more than GHS 100. For example, if a person sends GHS 50 for the first time during the day, and then sends another 50 (totaling GHS 100), they will not be charged. However, any amount transferred after that on the same day will be charged with the E-Levy.” As explained by GRA.
Contrary to the above, Mannaseh has revealed that they tax even on the first E-levy transactions.
Reactions
Many users lamented that it is true.
“Oh yes I said this the last time , they even charge 2cedis on 100gh with momo pay . Now they charge momo pay than regular momo service. So I called MTN and they said they are not in charge of the deduction that Ghana Revenue Authority is in charge of directly deducting the money.” A user said.
“When you initiate a transaction, they assume you’ve completed it even if it is cancelled. So when you try the next transaction they won’t exempt the first 100gh even you’ve not done any transaction earlier.” A user explained
