Crop Farmers, Cashew farmers at Kintampo North and South in the Bono East region, says the high cost of farm inputs will affect crop yields for the 2022 farming season, warning that there could be possible food shortages if government does not drastically subsidize inputs.
According to the Kintampo South cashew farmers association chairman Nana Kodom, hikes in farm inputs are compelling them to farm at below-average capacity.
They want government to release and subsidize farm inputs on a timely basis, else Ghanaians should brace themselves for hikes in foodstuff.
Speaking in an interview with Asona Dehyie Kwarteng, farmers bemoaned that, the over 70 percent hike in farm inputs, fertilizer, agrochemicals and among other are making the venture more challenging and thus will negatively influence crop yields and food security.
“Again, they said gone are the days when farming were less expensive but now farming has become extremely difficult in the country.”
Calling on President Nana Akufo-Addo and Agriculture minister Hon Afriyie Akoto to their aid.
