[Video] Akufo-Addo Fails To Mention Mahama’s Name At Sod Cutting Despite Mentioning NDC Project

This is the second year themed after the year of roads. Many Ghanaians have complained about the state of Ghana’s roads. Indeed, many accidents have happened in the country as a result of this. It is interesting to however know that despite the call for road improvements, government feels road tolls should remain abolished.

Today, Friday, July 8, 2022 President Akufo-Addo cut sod for the 500 million Euro Manso to Huni Valley Railway line. Work is expected to commence soon and the stretch is expected to boost Ghana’s railway system and provide easy access to the areas the railway connects.

In addressing the crowd present, President Akufo-Addo bemoaned that Ghana has allowed the railway infrastructure left by the colonial government to deteriorate. He explained that by the time he came to office only 10% of the 949km of railway left by the colonial regime was in use. Interestingly, the president added that by the time he came to office in 2017 only 15km of railway had been added since the colonialists left.

This railway is from Sekondi to Takoradi via Kojokrom and this was built between 2012-2017. Remarkably, the NDC under John Mahama was in power then till the 2016 elections bundled them out of power.

Akufo-Addo however failed to mention John Mahama’s name or give credit to the NDC. All he gave was the period the railway was constructed.

Indeed this project was started by the late John Atta Mills and inaugurated in November 2016 by John Mahama. Was the case that the NDC abandoned the railway started in 2012 and it was only in 2017 when Akufo-Addo came to power that he finished the project? This is sure to promote some discussions on social media. This isn’t strange of many African leaders who fear their political rivals will capitalize on achievements mentioned to score political points.
