The Chief Editor of the Fourth Estate news portal, Mr Manasseh Azure Awuni has rubbished the suggestion that the Akufo-Addo let government has headed to the International Monetary Fund(IMF) due to the economic ramifications of the covid-19 pandemic.
Government communicators since the announcement of an intended IMF intervention have been arguing that but for Covid-19 and the Russia-Ukraine war, the need for an IMF intervention would have been out of the equation.
But according to Mr Azure, this suggestion cannot be taken to be the gospel truth.
With reference to an investigative work done by the Fourth Estate, Mr Manasseh argued that there is evidence that the government only used the Covid-19 pandemic as an opportunity to steal from the national purse. Therefore, Covid-19 cannot be blamed for Ghana’s predicament.
He maintains government has initiated an IMF engagement to mitigate the devastating economic blow the country is currently facing as a result of the looting.
In a post sighted on his Facebook page on Saturday, the multiple award winning investigative journalist wrote: “If anyone tells you that Covid-19 is responsible for our predicament, tell him or her it’s a fat lie. They used Covid-19 as a conduit to loot. The looting was supervised President Akufo-Addo”.
