The ride-hailing industry’s unionized drivers have joined black ride, a local app firm. Drivers have been agitating and protesting for months, claiming that the foreign app platforms are a rip-off. The Ghana Online Drivers Union went on a two-day statewide sit-down strike on May 11 and 12.
The drivers used the demonstration to put pressure on the app’s administration to raise the fares paid to platform users. They expressed their dissatisfaction with the terrible working conditions and the arbitrary percentage charges.
“It is unheard of that I take a passenger on a long trip of about one and a half hours and then he gives you less than $6.00 in the name of bonuses,” said Mark Anthony, a driver. “I believe this locally owned and operated business will come to our aid.” He expressed himself.
Meanwhile, the “Black Ride” platform’s creators, who are outstanding minds at work, believe it will be a game changer in the ride hailing market. “For us, these are the rules of the game,” CEO Tony Klah stated.
“This is my country, and I can see how the drivers work and what conditions they labor in. Very bad. So we have had enough of the growing number of driver strikes.”
“Assessing a given matrix to understand how it functions is one of the benefits that fair employment gives to the environment. The platform is equipped with the most advanced security mechanisms, ensuring the safety and security of both riders and drivers.” He agitatedly said.
