A woman called Esther Alan shares her heartbreaking story about what happened to her after she got married to a white man. Esther said she got burns on her hand at her tender age, unfortunately for her both of her hands became disabled. Her mother too died when she was 8 years old but she didn’t go to school because of her disability.
One day whilst she was returning from their farm around Kakum National Park, she met a white man called Alan Donald from South Manchester United who came for a tour at Kakum National Park. They became friends and he decided to help her go to school. After she completed Senior high school, Donald informed her that he has lost his wife and children in a plane crash, the white man then decided to get married to her.
Esther said her family members told her that the white man is older than her and she too is disabled so they won’t allow her to marry the white man. It was her grandmother who stood by her and allowed them to get married. After their marriage, she conceive and gave birth to their first child. Donald then told her that he wants to go back to Manchester for a while before he comes back to her.
Esther said she supported his decision and truly he came back. She again got pregnant but two weeks after she gave birth to their second child, Donald fell sick and was rushed to the hospital, unfortunately, he died whilst he was receiving treatment at the hospital. The woman said they made a police report and send it to the embassy to find his family in South Manchester and the body too was sent to the morgue.
She waited for almost one year before the police inform her that the embassy brought a letter which indicates that they can’t find her late husband’s family members so she can go ahead and bury her husband. Esther went to the morgue for the body but she was given a bill of GHC3,700 before the body will be released to her. The woman said she was not having that amount, with the help of social welfare, she was able to pay the bill and got the body and organised for her husband’s funeral.
Esther again said none of her family members attended her husband’s funeral. The family told her that they never supported her marriage so she alone should do the funeral rites. The mother of two revealed that she started facing hardship after her husband’s funeral, her hand too is disabled and can’t work to support herself. She decided to even poison herself and the kids because there is no one to help her.
