The Ghana premier league top goal scorer race is going down to the wire. Yaw Annor of Ashgold and Frank Mbella of Kotoko are tied with 20 goals each. Kotoko played Ashgold in the last round of fixtures and it ended in a stalemate.
Yaw Annor scored a delightful goal, rounding two Kotoko defenders(Maxwell Agyeman and Imoro Ibrahim) before slotting the ball past goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim. Mbella failed to score on that day. Yaw Annor’s single goal meant he is now par with the Kotoko top marksman.
In an interview with renowed sports journalist Kwaku Edilson on Wontumi Sports, Yaw Annor stated he didn’t expect his season will turn out this way.
“I didn’t think I will be among the top goalscorers at the beginning after scoring only 4 goals in the 1st round of the season.
Things weren’t really good for Ashgold and the team held a meeting in order to find a solution to the teams woes” he said.
He added that frequent practicing and watching videos of his mentor Messi, have improved his goalscoring abilities.
Kotoko has won the league with three games to spare. No foreign player have ever won the GPL top scorer.
