Ghana, has reached a stage, where many citizens,; especially the youth believes that, President Nana Addo have plunged Ghana into unprecedented hardships, and needed to apologize for failing Ghanaians.
President Nana Addo Dankwa-Akuffo Addo, in the face of all the 2016 and 2020 unfulfilled promises; and putting the country into a state of rising unemployment, rising cost of fuel, high cost of living; is now increasing the anger in the youth, through his recent and continues statements.
In his latest comments; which has become another heated debate on social media, President Nana Addo said, Ghanaians have to be prepared to sacrifice and to pay taxes.
According to the president, he wants Ghanaians to rise up to the challenge; and help in the development of the country.
When the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was in power, Nana Addo (who was then fighting for power), was up and against the government, for borrowing and taxing Ghanaians.
One of his comments against the NDC government on taxation and borrowing, was on November 26, 2013; when he wrote on his official Twitter Page: “The (NDC) government lacks focus, and only knows how to tax and borrow, and not how to govern for the people”.
During these periods, there were no news of the then president, hiring private jets when travelling outside. Today; President Nana Addo, who was strongly against taxation, has imposed more taxes on Ghanaians, and still asking us to be prepared to pay more taxes.
President Nana Addo who stood against the previous government for borrowing, has in these days borrowed more, and describing the “paying of taxes” as a sacrifice necessary to confront Ghana’s challenges.
Speaking at the Summit of the Africa Finance Cooperation in Abuja, Nigeria recently, President Akufo-Addo stressed that, Ghana can only be developed by Ghanaians; and that, “All of these are the sacrifices that are required for us to make it, and we have to be prepared to do so”.
Prior to winning the 2016 elections, Candidate Nana Addo made Ghanaians know, that the then (NDC) government, was putting pains on Ghanaians and the economy through taxation and borrowings; but what has changed today?
If Taxation and borrowing were bad during the times of the NDC; how then, are they good in the Nana Addo-NPP’s time?
If Ghanaians have to sacrifice, and pay more taxes, in the Nana Addo led NPP era; to help develop the country, why was that bad during the NDC era?
Dr. Bawumia in some times pass, thinks mobile money tax is bad and unfair to the majority of Ghanaian; because according to him, many of the people who uses the momo, are poor people. Why is the same Bawumia and his Boss, now imposing mobile money tax on the poor? Or have all the poor suddenly disappeared from he country?
Why is the same thing bad in one era…yet good in another era?
