John Mahama yesterday at the Kempinksi Hotel delivered a presentation themed, Ghana at a crossroad. The former president spoke about the ills of the country. Some of the issues looked at nepotism, corruption and the arbitrary use of state institutions to abuse people found to be opposing the government. Interestingly, much of the issues looked at the economy.
Two of the things worth noting was the John Mahama’s pledge to repeal the E-levy if the NDC is elected into office in 2024. Again John Mahama refused to mention the name of Bawumia in his over 1 hour 30 minutes’ speech. He chose to refer to him as the Vice President or the Head of the Economic Management team.
John Mahama called on president Akufo-Addo to sack Ken Ofori Atta and Mahamudu Bawumia if he indeed has the country in the best interest. According to John, the Finance Minister has failed and the only thing left is for him to be sacked. With regards to Bawumia, the former president insisted that the ailing economy was clear to see and the blame should not be shoved on the NDC but rather on the head of the economic management team.
Again John Mahama asked for a reshuffling of ministers alongside sacking of ministers who are not performing. John averred that 5 years after coming into office, President Akufo-Addo has failed to reshuffle his appointees and also left people he needs to sack still at post. Many have complained and wondered why ministers like the Health and Agriculture ministers are still at post.
