The Education Minister, Honorable Dr. Yaw Adutwum is trending for making some strong comments. According to the Minister, Grade ‘A’ Senior High Schools are urged to admit low grade students. He encouraged that, admitting such students will in the long run help to transform some students who are academically weak.

However, an expert, Mr. Peter Anti Partey has disagreed with the minister. According to Mr. Partey, it is not guaranteed that good teachers can transform bad students. He added that students differ by various forms and getting them into Grade A schools may not even yield any good results.

Mr. Partey further added that the Education Ministry can change the algorithms used to select the students into these senior high schools to meet desired goals since the heads of schools do not have the capacity to choose the schools as it was done several years ago when there was manual selection.

Mr. Partey sought to inform that, now computers do the school placement and not the head masters. He added that, such a statement can be done by the Minister to encourage the heads if the algorithms were already changed to place low grade students into Grade A schools. He added that if the heads complain about placement of low grade students into their schools, then it would be in the best place to come and encourage them to accept them.
