Reggie Rockstone has emotionally revealed that he was once accused of stealing a car and the scar of that trauma is still weighing heavily on his conscience.
The rapper and one of the founding fathers of Hiplife spilled this information probably for the first time while speaking with Kwaku Nhyira-Addo on The Asaase Breakfast Show on Thursday.
Rockstone, whose real name is Reginald Yaw Asante Osei said: “That was a weird one Ghana tried to pull on me. I was unpleasantly surprised by my country when somebody accused me of stealing a car and I was dragged to court.
“I went to court for years to try to prove my innocence and it was at this point that I realized that the Jesus syndrome is your own people. I had folks who I knew personally write on social media [to the effect that] I ‘could steal the car’ … So today if an issue of someone pops up I just keep quiet.
“But I went to court and I had my day … I got off.” He said he was treated like a punk after being arrested but, “It turned out that this car they said I’ve stolen was my father’s car.”
Reggie Rockstone, who is a member of the evergreen music trio VVIP recently said in a separate interview that he and the other members of the group are not under any pressure to release new songs because they are not desperate.
The Hiplife Grandpapa as he’s affectionately called said they understand the concept of the group hence the fact they have not released a new song in almost five years does not mean they are fizzling out. He shared this sentiment in a new interview with Graphic .
“Members of VVIP were ‘elders’ and not under pressure to release a song to prove their worth. We are not young artistes now clamouring for attention or fame. Besides, for the four years or so we were together, we proved to Ghanaians that when you have it, you have it and our records within the period proved that.
It was a moment of an amazing display of humility where two brands came together so we are not under pressure at all. We are elders in the game and don’t need to prove a point to anyone so we are giving the young ones the chance to show their potential as well,” he stated.
