The District Chief Executive of Assin North in the Central Region, Honourable Charles Ohene Andoh has admonished men to desist from using women with a disability as sex objects at night and abandoning them in the daytime.
Speaking in an interview with Rich Fm and Angel Fm/TV Reporter Kwame Owusu Asante Shadrack, he indicated some men take advantage of these vulnerable women, pretend to love them, and disappear immediately after getting them pregnant. “It is sad,” he stated.
“Things are hard for these vulnerables, and plunging them into such situations only worsens their plight, we should love them, respect them and help them genuinely without expecting anything in return.
Mr. Ohene Andoh made the statement at Assin Praso when the Assin North District Assembly through the Social Welfare Department presented items worth Gh¢152,000.00 to 68 persons with disabilities to enhance their livelihoods.
Items include 15 chest freezers, sets of ice chests, bags of salt, Knapsack Spraying Machines, assorted groceries fertilizers, cash for medical bills and schools, etc.
Meanwhile, the Social Welfare and Community Development Director of Assin North Mr. Emmanuel K. Dadzie revealed that the intervention was meant to make the PWDs self-sufficient and empower them to contribute meaningfully to societal development and also make life more comfortable for them.
He however advised the beneficiaries to use the items and cash received judiciously and avoid begging for alms at the roadside.
Also, the beneficiaries who received the items expressed gratitude to the Assembly and the government for supporting them in these hard times and pledged their commitment to putting the items and the cash to good use to achieve the intended purpose.
