Love fades; use your head when getting married — Basketmouth’s ex-wife advises » ™

In an old video, the estranged wife of Nigerian comedian Basketmouth, Miss Elsie quietly suggested that the love in their marriage had vanished, which might have contributed to their eventual divorce.

Thursday on his Instagram account, the comedian formally announced the dissolution of their marriage.

“As much as it pains me to bring my personal life into the public space, this is an unavoidable situation. After much deliberation, my wife and I have made the difficult decision to end our marriage.

“As we move forward separately, we will continue to work together to give our beautiful children all the care, love, guidance, and support they need. We humbly ask that you respect our privacy as we navigate through these times. Thank you,” his post reads.

Netizens who were left wondering what happened to the couples subsequently dug out an old video in which Mrs. Okpocha advised women not to rely only on love while getting married.

Because marriage is a lifelong commitment, she counseled unmarried women to select their partners wisely.

“Before you marry anybody, make sure you use your head, not your heart; love is important in marriage but not the thing that should guide you because love fades.

“It’s marriage, not a vacation, it’s a lifetime commitment. Nobody goes into marriage hoping to get a divorce. Marry someone that has sense; that is the most important thing in marriage in order to make the marriage work,” she said in the tape.
