Asante Kotoko 2nd On BetPawa Premier League Table After Beating Berekum Chelsea Today

Reigning champions Asante Kotoko moved second on the betPawa Premier League table after coming from behind to beat Berekum Chelsea 2-1 in Kumasi this afternoon.

This Matchday Nine fixture was played at the Baba Yara Stadium where the Porcupines are unbeaten at this season.

Emmanuel Sarpong gave Chelsea a 28th minute lead as they sought to make it back-to-back wins over Kotoko in Kumasi in as many seasons.

However, the record Ghana champions responded late on in the first half with their Ivorian national Serge Zeze bringing them on level pegging just before the break.

That late first half goal, handed the momentum to the home side in the second session, and they made that count in the 66th minute when Ugandan international striker Steven Dese Mukwala headed home the winner from a free kick taken by Enoch Morrison.

The defending champions then managed the game to the end as coach Seydou Zerbo’s side posted their fifth win of the campaign.

They sit two points behind leaders Aduana FC going into the next round of fixtures when ironically, they will face the Fire Lads in an away encounter at Dormaa-Ahenkro on New Year’s Day.

Berekum Chelsea are 10th on the table with 10 points, having won three, drawn three and lost three of the nine matches they have played.

They will return to the Golden City Park, Berekum for their next fixture which will be against inform Bibiani Gold Stars in the new year.
