The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has warned consumers to be wary of the kind of food items they buy from the market during the festive season.
NADMO says this is because some retailers and importers sell unwholesome products to unsuspecting consumers during such festive seasons which can be harmful to them.
The Ga East Municipal NADMO directorates said this when they seized some expired products from the open market, supermarkets, marts and shops at Taifa in the Dome Kwabenya constituency of the Ga East Municipality.
The products seized included body creams, soft and hard drinks, food products such as corned beef, tin tomatoes, mayonnaise and salad creams through an operation led by NADMO to protect the safety of consumers during the festive period.
According to the Ga East Municipal NADMO Director, Seth Kofi Osei Kissi, this is to ensure the safety of the public during the Christmas festivities.
The operation was carried out in some hotels, restaurants, shopping malls, market places and ware houses.
Speaking during the exercise, the Ga East Municipal NADMO Director, Seth Kofi Osei Kissi stated that there were some expired food products on the shelf of some shops, restaurants and hotels among others that need urgent attention.
