The Mayor of Tamale, Hon Sule Salifu, has been engaging leaders of various traders’ associations with the hope to strike a deal which could lead to reduction of goods and services in the Tamale Metropolis.
Escalating fuel prices coupled with dwindling Ghana Cedi had caused prices of goods and services to skyrocket bringing untold hardships on the people who had to battle with so many hikes with little and stagnant income.
The Cedi has stabilised and prices of petroleum products continue on the decline but with consumers yet to feel the impact as traders remain reluctant to reduce the prices, the Mayor’s believe his engagement with the traders will help bring relieve to the consumer.
Hon. Sule Salifu has already with several groups with the latest being the leadership of the Tipper Trucks Operators Association in Tamale to discuss modalities to reduce the prices of their services (seasand, aggregate, digging Stones and “Tamaleyley” to reflect the recent fuel price reduction which he described as significant.
The Association during the meeting however told the Mayor that it was not in their power to review the prices of their products. They directed the Mayor therefore to engage the GPRTU who according to them was their mother association and was in a better position to decide whether to adjust prices downward or not.
The Mayor was grateful to the leadership of Tipper Trucks Operators Association for agreeing to meet withthe show of commitment to getting to the bottom of the matter. He assured them of an open-door administration and promised to him. He pledged regular engagements which will help resolve issues affecting them and the general public.
