Former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Obuasi, Kwasi Ofori Agyemang, also known as Zuba says the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is a tolerant political party and for that no criticism leveled against them owing to the recent violence conduct that marred its youth and women’s conference will hold water.
The Youth and Women’s delegates conference of the NDC, which was held on Saturday, December 10, 2022, at the University of Cape Coast was marred with violence as some members of the party were captured on video clubbing and stoning each other.
As a key stakeholder in Ghana’s political sphere, the Youth Wing of the governing New Patriotic Party has condemned the violence conduct which characterized the NDCs conference.
In a statement issued on Monday, December 12, 2022, the National Youth Organiser of the NPP, Salam Mustapha, described the violent conducts which were captured on video as “shocking and disturbing”.
“It is difficult to comprehend how a supposed-to-be conference to elect leadership for their wings, will witness a gathering of gun cum machete-wielding thugs and vigilantes at the precincts of UCC, an intellectual hub. Elections are about ballots and not bullets,” portion of the statement read.
However, speaking on Kumasi-based Ultimate FM, Zuba while condemning the violence insists that the NDC is more tolerant than the NPP despite what happened last Saturday at Cape Coast.
“The root cause of the skirmishes at the youth and women wing NDC elections was as a result of despondency in the country, the NDC was going to elect people who are going to lead its fold to get this useless government out of office.
“The myriad issues facing the Ghanaian youth will be dealt with and it is a life and death issue. The stone throwing started because of the reaction of the police”, he revealed.
“We have to re-orient the police against crowd management; they are not on top of issues. We know the government will unleash the security on the NDC in 2024, just as they did in Techiman, so wherever we meet we are going to be doing rehearsals. We are not lawless but tell me, the people that died in Techiman what law has come to their aid. We are just preparing ourselves”, he added.
