EOCO Retrieves 37 Stolen Luxury Vehicles

Some 37 vehicles believed to have been stolen and shipped from the United States and Canada to Ghana have been retrieved by the Economic and Organised Crime Office following a special operation executed this week. Some 10 persons connected to the case have also been arrested, questioned and granted police enquiry bail.

According to a statement by EOCO, the automobiles which are classified as luxury vehicles and various specifications were retrieved at garages in Accra through the collaborative efforts of the Federal Bureau of Investigations and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

Following this incident, prospective car buyers have been warned to do due diligence before any payment to dealers are completed as they could land themselves in trouble with the law or may end up losing whatever resources they may have incurred on cars that will later be identified as stolen.

It remains unclear whether the cars that have been retrieved will be sent back to their original destinations or whether they will put on sale here in Ghana and the proceeds sent to their owners.

What is clear however is that this is not the end of this case considering investigations according to EOCO are still ongoing and the public will updated regularly as investigations continue.
