Farmers’ Day may have been celebrated a fortnight ago but tales emerging of the event which was celebrated nationwide show the actions of some individuals nearly took the shine out of hardworking and deserved farmers who were celebrated on that day.
One such person was Hon. Saeed Muaz Jibril, the Savannah Regional Minister who despite being a politician has carved a niche for himself as industrious farmer. Gracing the Savannah Region event as guest of honour, the minister took issues with the regional agriculture department, organisers of the event for not awarding him the title as best farmer in the region.
According to the Minister, he was the most distinguished farmer and no one in the region could march his records and accomplishments as a farmer. The obviously livid minister believed he was not selected for the honour because of his position and so expressed disappointment in the organisers, saying the fact that he was a government appointee should not prevent him from winning an award he rightly deserves.
Damongo-based Kasha Radio reported the issue and said the minister had directed that he be giving the honour as best farmer in subsequent editions.
A farmer from the north Gonja district, Frank Wilson, was adjudged the savannah regional best farmer for 2022 at this year’s farmers day event at Murugu on friday.
