Today, 9th December 2022, Samuel Abu Jinapor reopened the refurbished Accra Zoo, located at the Achimota Forest, here in our vibrant city of Accra.Â
The zoo was closed to the public, following the intrusion of the lions’ enclosure by an unknown person, sometime in August. Through the dedicated service of the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources and the Forestry Commission, the Zoo has now been refurbished and security at the place strengthened.Â
Apart from their contribution to the national economy, zoos provide a safe place for endangered species, create an environment for such species to reproduce and provide an opportunity to learn from animals and about animals.
The experts also tell us that visiting zoos serves as a great recipe to calm nerves and reduce stress. The strategic location of the Accra Zoo, in the heart of the city, creates a unique opportunity for us to de-stress from the pressures of the city.
As the festive season approaches, he encourages all of us, both Ghanaians and foreigners alike, to patrpatronizes the zoo and interact with nature.
The Government of President Akufo-Addo, through the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, is committed to promoting ecotourism for the conservation of our forest and wildlife resources, and development.
