A worry analysis by the Ghana AIDs Commission has revealed that the Upper Denkyira East Municipality has the highest HIV prevalence for adults in the central region.

Dunkwa tv, Mohammed Radiu Dinn Rasko,Today, as the world marks AIDs Day with the global theme for this year’s world Aids day is “Equaliser” however, in line with the commission’s 20th anniversary, it has adopted “Twenty years of multi-sectoral response to HIV and AIDs in Ghana: Accelerating progress to end AIDS” as the National theme.
He said, the cases recorded among males and females between the ages of 15 and 49 is 2085.
He however explained that unprotected sexual intercourse remained the main route for HIV new infection, multiple partner relationshis and low uptake of Antiretrovira Therapy were also contributing factors to new HIV infection in the Municipality.
He therefore encouraged Ghanaian to know their HIV and AIDS status for early and effective treatment.
Meanwhile, the Upper Denkyira East HIV/AIDs Coordinator, Miss Grace Edem Alifo said, the major factors contributing to the rising of the prevalence rate in the municipality is illegal mining activities and the fear of stigmatization.
“She then urged the public to desist from stigmatizing and discriminating against People Living with HIV/AIDS.
