Boxing: Vacant national lightweight strap on the line in Accra on December 30

Ghanaian pugilists Samuel Takyi and Victor Kuwornu will contest for the vacant national lightweight title in Accra at the end of the month.

It will come off at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra on Friday, December 30 to close the year.

The press launch for the upcoming contest, took place in the capital on Tuesday with both boxers looking poised for the championship. Takyi, is an Olympian, having fought at the Tokyo 2020 Games where he won a bronze medal, he is seeking to transform that unto the professional ranks.

He is also known as the “Ring Warrior”, and has promised to win the vacant title as he targets a world title in future.

“I am going to do everything possible to win this bout,” Takyi said at the presser, adding that he will put on a show on the day.

Victor Kuwornu, who is the most experienced of the two boxers, said the ring will decide who will win on the day as he has plans of his own.

The bout is being put together by Bazooka Promotions and Management Syndicate, owned by former World Champion Ike Quartey who manages Takyi.

They are seeking to make Takyi the first Ghanaian Olympic medalist, a world champion.

There will be other supporting bouts on the day and tickets for entry into the auditorium has been pegged at GHc30, GHc50, GHc100 and GHc500.
