UCC Sandwich: We Pay GH¢ 800 From Tamale to Eastern Region For Lectures

A group of sandwich students of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) sandwich programme in Tamale in the Northern Region have complained bitterly about how they spend close to GHC 800 on transportation from Tamale to Eastern Region for lectures during vacation.

The affected students who are mostly teachers holding diploma certificates and are doing their post-diploma programmes in the UCC’s 5-Semester Sandwich Programme disclosed that ever since the study centre in Tamale was moved to the Eastern region, that decision has been unfavourable to them.

Thus, have expressed worry over the situation because they are unable to pay their academic fees. According to them, the school’s authorities have been silent about their plight, hence called on them to bring the study centre back to Tamale.

Speaking to Bricy Boateng in an interview, one of the affected students narrated, “It was first published on the website of University of Cape Coast about sandwich courses and centres, so we applied. Admission was given, and the centre was in Tamale in the admission letter, so we paid the fees and now [they have] changed the centre from Tamale to the Eastern Region without telling us the reason.”

He added that feeding, course materials on campus have become a challenge due to the high transport fares, he said,

“Fare from Tamale to the Eastern Region is almost 400; in and out will be 800 cedis without fees and buying of handouts and sometimes the food they cook is not good [so] you have to buy food. We are pleading with them to bring the centre back to Tamale, if not we can’t pay the fees.” He remarked.
