It’s official, the paramount chief of Navrongo, Navro-Pio P3 Asagpaare Aneakwoa Balinia Adda Il has named Alapta Wan as Northern Yaa Asantewa.
According to the Chief, he has listened to the music of all genres but listening to Alapta Wan’s music and watching her perform sounded and appeared outstanding.
Alapta Wan was called on together with some of her colleagues to perform at the Upper East regional durbar of the 2022 Face of Northern Ghana, in the light of Wesoame who represents the Upper East region.
The durbar was held at the Navrongo Chief Palace on October 30, 2022. Present was the Chief of Navrongo, Navarro-Pio P3 Asagpaare Aneakwoa Balinia Adda Il and his cabinet members, and other dignitaries.
After several minutes of entertaining them with dazzling performances of her hit songs, the Chief of Navrongo who was pleased with her performance, requested copies of her songs.
After compiling the songs in a pen drive, the queen of rendition together with her management visited the Chief to present his request.
He mentioned that he has been listening to the artiste’s songs on the radio and had always felt she is a Jamaican due to the notoriety she has gained for her striking song lines which are mostly a blend of the Jamaican Patois, English, Gurune ( a language of Bolgatanga_, etc) her flawless delivery until he watched her perform.
“I have been listening to these songs on the radio, but had always thought of Jamaica and never realized you were just at my doorstep.
Though you are from here, I strongly feel you have some Bob Marley Blood in you.
You are good, keep the standards and the sky is surely going to be your limit. You have my blessings and the gods of our land will help you meet great investors’’
he said.
He also made mention of his seeing Alapta Wan as the Northern Yaa Asantewaa considering her relentless hard work, perseverance, greater input, and the fact that she is rubbing shoulders with her male counterparts which correlate with the fearless works executed by the late great woman of the Ashanti Empire.
Our search reveals that Yaa Asantewaa I was the Warrior Queen Mother of Ejisu in the Ashanti Empire – now part of modern-day Ghana – appointed by her brother Nana Akwasi Afrane Oppose, the Edwesuhene, or ruler, of Midwest. In 1900 she led the Ashanti war known as the War of the Golden Stool, also known as the Yaa Asantewaa War of Independence, against the British Empire.
The chief after receiving the songs commended her for her unsaturated talent and gifted her two guinea fowls.
Speaking to the female warrior in the music scene on how she felt for receiving a such paramount endorsement from a man of authority, she said words could not describe her state of happiness.
She expressed her utmost gratitude to the chief, his cabinet members, and the people of Navrongo for giving her high hopes with their unflinching support.
