Worry About This: The Woes Of Ride Hailing App Drivers In Ghana

However, in our research in Ghana this year, we found that workers (predominantly ride-hailing drivers and delivery workers) have been at the mercy of a rise in inflation levels which is affecting their means of livelihood as platform workers.

Many who have joined digital labour platforms struggle to make ends meet as they struggle with everyday expenses and work longer hours to maintain a decent standard of life.

Many of them have to switch between two or three platforms to work extra hours to be able to pay for their everyday expenses, as well as to put food on the table for their families and provide a roof over their heads.

Some have had to create a second home in their cars because they work round the clock and can only afford to take naps in their cars.

An indirect effect of working longer hours is that platform workers put their health at risk as they lack sleep and are often fatigued.
