A Kumasi based retired teacher, Mr Owusu Kankam Kusi (aka Kumasi Mosquito) has alleged that the educational reform policies that was introduced by the current government cannot favor the country.Â
Mr Kusi who is also the founder and National President of the of the Elite Teachers Association of Ghana noted that the educational policies are having negative impact on the country.
And therefore called on the authorities to take a second look at it and review it for the benefit of the country.
Speaking to the Correspondent in an interview Kumasi Mosquito linked the several teachers strikes to the educational policies that they allegedly consider it as unfavorable in the educational sector.
Kusi allegedly mentioned poor conditions of services that include salary structures, incentives and allowances, promotional issues, system of engaging substantive official (Director General) to manage the sector among others.
Citing instance to justify his points Mr Kusi mentioned the recent appointment of the Director General of the Ghana Education Service that incurred the wrath of the Teachers Unions.
According to the retired teacher, that appointment contradicts the rules and regulations that govern on how such position is made in the sector.
But because the system is unknown to the public certain people linked the teachers strikes to politics.
Mr Kusi alleged further that the free senior high school concept is also engulfed with number of challenges but the problems remained unsolved.
Mr Kusi alleged that the current educational reform policies have been putting teachers at risk thus compelling them to embark on regular strikes.
And the results are that the public would see them as workers who plans to use their profession to make the government unpopular while it is not so.
He indicated that until review is enforced in the county’s education system, education would allegedly continue to loose its taste in the society for a very long time to come.
