I Have Not Been Reckless With Ghana’s Economy – Ken Ofori-Atta

Africa's most politically powerful bankers: Hott, Kooli and Ofori-Atta

The Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, who is currently under fire for allegedly being responsible for the economic challenges, is facing the 8-member ad-hoc committee set up to probe the censure motion against him. The finance minister has denied all allegations leveled against him.

According to him, the current economic challenges facing the country are not a result of his recklessness but due to the devastating effects of COVID-19.

“I want to state that I have not been reckless in the management of fiscal operations of the government.”

He added that their keen efforts to protect the public purse have helped this government to achieve more than any government in every sector, education, health, social welfare, policing, security in general, roads, railways, agriculture, industrialization, tourism, digitization, and funding for anti-corruption institutions.

The minority MPs are accusing the Finance Minister of making unconstitutional withdrawals from the Consolidated Fund meant for constructing the National Cathedral.

Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta allegedly is found to have made ‘illegal’ payments of oil revenues into offshore accounts and was ‘deliberately’ and ‘dishonestly’ misreporting economic data to the Parliament.
