Ex Real Tamale United and Black Stars goalkeeper Abubakar Damba has opted for Joseph Wollacott to lead the goalkeeping department for the Black Stars in the upcoming 2022 Fifa World Cup to be hosted by Qatar.
Coach Otto Addo named five (5) goalkeepers in the 55 man preliminary squad he released ahead of the teams preparation towards the Mundial which begins on the 20th November, 2022.
Asante Kotoko’s Ibrahim Danlad, Abdul Manaf Nurudeen (Eupen, Belgium), Richard Ofori (Orlando Pirates, South African, Joseph Wollacott (Charlton Athletic) and Lawrence Ati-Zigi (FC St. Gallen) are the men expected to compete for positions in the team as goalie’s for the Stars but Damba believes …… could be chosen ahead of the rest.
He said “We played the qualifiers and had one goalkeeper who had shown consistencies throughout, that is Jojo Wollacott the most used among all the keepers so far, all things being equal he might be the first choice,” GNA Sports.
Damba also bemoans that fact Ghana currently lacks goalkeepers who are gifted in the team.
“One of our challenges is that we don’t have goalkeepers who are very gifted in the team in as much as we would not be satisfied with their performances because of comparisons.
“We see other goalkeepers playing for their clubs and their nations performing well so we do comparisons but I’m very positive that we can do well,” he stated.
