Robbers flee as Uber driver scares them with juju and incantations

Ride-hailing service driver Emmanuel Gaga has recounted a robbery attack experience he had and how he prevented it.

Speaking on SVTV Africa, Emmanuel disclosed that he protects himself with what he calls ‘danger’ (juju) he keeps in his car. According to Emmanuel, he picked up a rider who called on his gang to rob him.

“I’ve experienced a lot of attacks, and I threaten them often. I drove someone to Teshie, and he told me he was coming. He called his squad over, but I don’t know whether they wanted my phone or car.

I quickly took out the ‘danger’ I had when I saw the speed at which they were coming. I wrapped it around my belt and began saying words in my language. It is fake. It was to protect myself,” he recounted.

According to the driver, the robbers fled the scene immediately after they heard the incantations. Emmanuel added that he may have lost his possessions if he had mentioned God’s name instead.

“The ‘juju’ saved me. If I said ‘in the name of Jesus, they would have attacked me. The power of God works, but sometimes you have to scare them because they are scared of ‘juju’, not God,” he added.

Moreover, Emmanuel spoke on the recent hike in fuel prices and complained about the exorbitant charges the ride-hailing companies take.
