The hardship in the country can be felt by every Ghanaian and at the slightest provocation, violence breaks out. Just a few days ago, a young man climbed a pylon and got electrocuted. This time around, another guy has perished just because of a disagreement over the Ghc2 transport fare.
As reported by credible online portals, a passenger lost his life after he had a misunderstanding with the bus conductor over the transportation fare. This incident follows the recent upward adjustment in fuel prices.
It has become a ritual that anytime fuel prices are increased, transport unions also increase their charges to be able to make ends meet. This mostly conflicts with the calculations of passengers with regards to the required percentage drivers are supposed to increase fares.
According to an eyewitness, the driver explained to the passengers that the fare has been increased by Ghc2. The passengers weren’t convinced with one of them unwilling to pay. This infuriated the driver who drove back to the station, gave each passenger his fare, and ordered all of them to descend from the vehicle.
The deceased who was reluctant to come down were forcefully evicted by the driver and his mate which resulted in a fight until he lost his life.
