Gladson Awako scores late winner as Accra Hearts of Oak record first win of the season

Ghana’s premier club Accra Hearts of Oak posted their first win in the ongoing betPawa Ghana Premier League 2022/23, with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Bibiani Gold Stars today, with Gladson Awako scoring a late winner for the home side.

This Matchday Four fixture, was played at the Accra Sports Stadium in Coach Slavko Matic’s first game in charge of the Phobians.

The Serbian helmsman, saw his team come from behind to record their first win of the campaign, in a game they barely deserved to win.

Gold Stars, opened the scoring in the ninth minute through Prince Owusu, and they held on for a first half lead as they sought a first win over the Phobians in the league.

The away side, held on well for majority of the second half, but their fortunes were dented by the sending off of their goalkeeper Joseph Baah early in that half.

Gold Stars could not resist any further afterwards, and late goals by Isaac Mensah and Gladson Awako, secured the three points for Hearts of Oak as they won for the first time this season.

Hearts of Oak now has five points from the four matches they have played, in ninth position on the table with Gold Stars, placed 14th with three points.

The league will continue on Sunday and Monday with matches across all centres nationwide.
