There is pressure mounting on President Akufo-Addo to sack the Finance Minister and Minister of State in charge of Finance, Ken Ofori Atta and Adu Boahen respectively. The president has however failed to heed to all these calls. In a meeting on Tuesday with the Majority Caucus of the House of Parliament the President persuaded the NPP MPs to hold on with their calls on him to sack Ken Ofori Atta.
It can be recalled that over 80 NPP MPs granted a press conference withholding their services to the house of Parliament and calling for Akufo-Addo to sack Ken. This was followed by a motion of censure by the Minority side also calling for the sack of the Finance Minister. Well, Johnnie Hughes has lambasted the Majority side for agreeing to the President’s pleas in order for Ken to finish the ongoing negotiations with the IMF.
Speaking on Johnnie’s Bite today, Thursday. Johnnie Hughes questioned why the president wants Ken to finish negotiations before he finally lets him go. He wondered if the President really intends to sack Ken. According to Johnnie, why is the President using someone for a deal the person will not be in charge. Johnnie boldly stated that even his 12-year old son will not take a decision of keeping Ken to finish negotiations that he will not be a part of if sealed. Johnnie insisted that if a wrong person leads the negotiations, the deal might also go wrong.
It is unclear why Akufo-Addo wants Ken to keep leading a deal that he will not steer when done. Johnnie also noted that he was amazed that the Majority have kowtowed to the President and decided to end their protest for the removal of the Finance. Many experts argue that the IMF deal will not be sealed any time soon. Is Ken the right person to lead and finish the deal? Should another person be appointed and get the deal sealed? Is ken’s presence hindering the deal?
