I smoke to kill shyness, I can’t work without it – sex worker reveals

25-year-old sex worker Lydia has stated that she often smokes cigarettes and hashish to overcome her shyness before going out for work each night.

Lydia indicated that prostitution is not what she prefers to do, but she has no choice presently. In an interview on SVTV Africa, Lydia mentioned that she moved to Accra to live with an aunt after her mother’s demise.

However, she fled due to the maltreatment she received. She started prostitution soon after. Speaking about her job, Lydia mentioned that it is tough, and she often smokes to overcome her shyness.

“Sometimes I feel like getting high before going out. I can go out after smoking cigarettes or hashish, but workout it, I feel shy.

I don’t enjoy it because I want money, not pleasure. It is risky too. I only go for short because sleeping over is dangerous,” the 25-year-old said.

Lydia added that she wanted to quit prostitution and would wish to be a make-up artist. Responding to DJ Nyaami’s question of whether she believes prostitution is spiritually inclined, Lydia said, “if you are willing to stop and have a job to do, you can. We all have different opinions, but I believe I can stop.”
